Before Your Appointment

1–2 Weeks Prior:

  • Hydrate and Moisturize: Keep your lips well-moisturized using lip balm or hydrating masks to ensure optimal pigment absorption.

  • Exfoliate: Gently exfoliate your lips 3–4 days before the appointment to remove dead skin cells.

  • Avoid Blood Thinners: Refrain from consuming alcohol, caffeine, aspirin, ibuprofen, and omega-3 supplements 48–72 hours before your session, as they can increase bleeding and affect pigment retention.

  • Antiviral Medication: If you have a history of cold sores, consult your doctor about taking antiviral medication (e.g., Valtrex) starting a few days before and continuing after the procedure to prevent outbreaks.

Day of the Appointment

1. Consultation (15–30 minutes):

  • Discuss Goals: Talk about your desired lip color, shape, and overall look.

  • Color Matching: I will assess your natural lip tone and skin undertones to select the most flattering pigment.

  • Health Assessment: Disclose any medical conditions or medications, especially if prone to cold sores.

2. Preparation:

  • Numbing: A topical anesthetic is applied to minimize discomfort. It typically takes 20–30 minutes to take effect.

  • Mapping: I will outline your lips to define the shape and ensure symmetry.

3. Procedure (1.5–2.5 hours):

  • Pigment Application: Using a specialized machine, pigment is deposited into the lips in layers to achieve the desired color and saturation.

  • Comfort Measures: Additional numbing may be applied during the process if needed.

Aftercare & Healing

Immediate Post-Procedure:

  • Swelling & Tenderness: Expect some swelling and sensitivity; applying a cold compress can help alleviate discomfort.

  • Color Intensity: The initial color will appear more vibrant and will soften as the lips heal.

Days 1–7:

  • Cleaning: Gently cleanse your lips with a mild cleanser after eating or drinking.

  • Moisturizing: Apply the provided aftercare ointment regularly to keep lips hydrated.

  • Avoid: Refrain from touching, picking, or peeling the lips. Avoid spicy foods, heavy exercise, and direct sun exposure.

Weeks 2–6:

  • Healing: Lips will continue to heal, and the true color will emerge.

  • Touch-Up: A follow-up appointment may be scheduled during this period to perfect the color and shape.

Additional Tips

  • Avoid Lip Injections: Do not get lip fillers at least 4 weeks before or after the procedure.

  • Sun Protection: Use a lip balm with SPF to protect the pigment from fading.

  • Long-Term Care: Results can last 2–3 years, but periodic touch-ups may be needed to maintain the desired look.
